7 days, 7 Zombie Cats! Day 7 - Roxy

It's Day 7! The final day of my 7 Days, 7 Zombie Cats Series! Today I introduce you to my sweet baby Roxy Cotton. Everybody loves Cotton!

Day 7 - Roxy Cotton
a.k.a. Ca-Cotton, Cotton Ball, Cotton Head

Age: 1 (will be 2 in May)
Female

Turn-Ons include:
  • LASER LIGHT!!!
  • Being the baby.
  • Laying with all the other kitties.
  • Wet food.
  • Sleeping right across my face.

Turn-Offs include:

Roxy Cotton's Story
It was June 26, 2009, the 3rd Anniversary of the first day Loukas and I met, and we were headed back home from dinner and going to the Cat's After Dark adoption event at Animal Services. We stopped at a grocery store on the way home, I had my window rolled down and heard a soft meow. Loukas didn't believe me because I ALWAYS think I see cats and many turn out to be garbage bags, bushes, mail boxes, etc., so maybe I was hearing things. But, I heard it again, a very distinct meow... and I was for sure this time, so off to investigate I went.

Sure enough, sitting on the curb was a small kitten looking at me. I went back to the car to get a can of cat food, because again... a crazy cat lady is always equipped with cat food. That's the first thing you learn in Crazy Cat Lady 101. I dumped the food on the curb and she ate the whole thing as I petted her. She started purring and rubbing on me, so I picked her up, got into the car, and took her home. A few days later I took her to get spayed and get ready for adoption through a local rescue group. But as soon as she was going to make her debut at the adoption center, she came down with what I thought was a URI (Upper Respiratory Infection), so she had to stay home and go on antibiotics.

Weeks past and she got better, but then sick again, and back and forth. It was an on and off struggle until I realized that she probably didn't have URI, that she most likely had the Feline Herpes Virus. I stopped putting her on antibiotics to see if she could fight it off on her own, and she did. She still gets sneezy on and off, but I keep her immune system strong with high quality food and supplements, and always keep a close eye on her to make sure she doesn't get too bad. If she does, I take her to the Vet, and I put her back on a cycle of antibiotics if needed. Because of her condition, she never made it to the adoption center, here she stays, the 7th and final member of The Zombie Cat Crew. Which is fine with me because she is a real sweet heart and the only one that ALL the other cats love.

7 Days, 7 Zombie Cats! Day 6 - Mr. Balls

It's Day 6 of my 7 Days, 7 Zombie Cats series, and that means it is time to meet Mr. Balls, the only boy of my crew. Everybody asks, "Why is his name Mr. Balls?"... well that's the first thing I called him when I picked him up and saw his little man berries... and all though his man berries are long gone, his name still remains Mr. Balls. Maybe it should be changed to Mr. "No" Balls, but... what fun is that?... =D

Day 6 - Mr. Balls
a.k.a. Ballsie, Bubba, Balls Balls, Boyfriend

Age: 2 (will be 3 in August)
Male

Turn-Ons include:
  • BAGS!!!
  • Laying under rugs.
  • Laying under the couch.
  • Being annoying to every cat in the house.
  • Strangers. (yes, he loves strangers)
  • Sucking on soft blankets.

Turn-Offs include:
  • Being picked up by daddy.
  • kittens.

Mr. Balls' Story
Loukas and I were on our way home on a sunny day in September of 2008, when we saw two young boys running down the road and what appeared to be a small Chihuahua dog chasing them. Being the crazy animal person that I am, I told Loukas to slow down so I could tell them that they need to pick up their puppy so he doesn't run into the road, when I realized that it wasn't a puppy, it was a small kitten chasing them, screaming his little head off, while they ignored him. We stopped, got out of the car, and I asked them if that was their kitten. They told me no, and said that he came out of the ditch and started chasing them and crying, but that if they brought him home their mom would be mad. I looked down at the poor little kitten who was skin and bones, just sitting there screaming at me in desperation, and I told Loukas to get the cage, because a crazy cat lady like myself isn't fully equipped unless she has a cage with her at all times right? ;)

I picked him up and bloody diarrhea came pouring out of his little skinny body. I put him in the cage and we rushed him to the Vet to get checked out. He was full of every parasite and bacteria imaginable, dehydrated, and starving. The Vet prescribed him tons of medicine, food supplements, and told me to isolate him, and that it was going to take a long time to get his digestive track back in to order. Oh great!... how was I gonna find him a home in this condition.

It took about 6 months to get him over the diarrhea, and he still has spells every now and then, of course that means that I was afraid to adopt him out and risk someone dumping him because they didn't want to scoop some extra poop. So here he stays, safe with me, the six member of the zombie cat crew, and my little buddy. He never really grew into his manliness because of all the problems he had early on, he stayed pretty small and most people assume he is a girl, but he is not, he is my little man, and I love him to pieces.

Mr. Balls

See ya tomorrow! =^.^=

7 Days, 7 Zombie Cats! Day 5 - Vivian

It's Day 5 of my 7 Days, 7 Zombie Cats series, and Today I'd like to introduce you to... Vivian!

Day 5 - Vivian
a.k.a. Aunt Viv, Biv Biv, Viv

Age: unknown???
Female

Turn-Ons include:
  • Cleaning herself obsessively.
  • Pulling her own hair out.
  • Talking.
  • Running into the bathroom EVERY TIME anyone goes in there.
  • Sitting on the porch shelf.
  • Smacking other cats while they are eating.

Turn-Offs include:
  • Being picked up.
  • Having the door shut if she is on the porch.
  • When other cats look at her.

Vivian's Story
Vivian showed up at our doorstep during a rain storm in the summer of 2008. She looked really scared and smelled like someone's house, so I figured that she was lost and that I would be able to find her home after the storm had passed. So I brought her in to dry off, get some food, and gave her a comfortable place to sleep for the night. But after a few weeks went by and nobody claimed her, I knew there wasn't much hope in me finding her home.

Vivian spent her days sitting in the window watching the birds and squirrels. It was almost like she wasn't even there, she was no trouble at all which was great because I was super stressed, and had to turn my focus to a sick little kitten that I will be telling you about tomorrow... hint, hint... So Vivian stayed, and we are glad she did. She's a non stop talker, fun to watch, and we love her crazy quirky ways.

Vivian

Fluffy Butt's Story
Fluffy Butt joined our little family in 2007. She was already an adult, but I had no idea how old she was. She was wondering around outside our neighborhood, begging for food, and more importantly, begging for attention. Again, I had no intention of bringing her in or keeping her, I figured that she HAD to belong to someone because she was super sweet, and plus, I wasn't in the market for another cat... haha... little did I know what the future would bring. But that didn't stop Fluffy Butt, she started following me around and sleeping on our door step every night.

Loukas (my boyfriend) and I, went away for the weekend, and when we returned, Fluffy Butt was gone. Several weeks went by and... no Fluffy Butt. I was very worried about her and blamed myself for not taking her in. Weeks turned into months and still no Fluffy Butt. I was devastated, how could I have let this happen to this poor sweet kitty who was begging me to help her. Just as I had given up all hope, and many months later, there she was! I was out on my porch looking down to the pool, and there was Fluffy Butt, chasing a bug in the bushes. I was shocked and excited. I ran out the door, called her, grabbed her up, and hurried back inside. She looked so confused. I put her into a carrier and off to the Vet we went to make sure she was ok, and she was. That was the day Fluffy Butt moved in and joined the family.

About a year later one of her legs just happened to get photographed when the Vet was x-raying her kidneys because of a urinary infection, and it was discovered that her leg had been broken and healed back crooked. The Vet said that Fluffy Butt most likey broke her leg in the time period that she went missing, and that she probably laid in the woods somewhere until her leg healed itself. Again, I felt horrible for not taking her in when I first saw her. But I'm glad she is safe, happy, healthy, and part of our family now.

It hasn't been easy having her around. She loves people, but she absolutely hates the 3 cats that were here before her, Kitty, Molly, and Chicken. She chases them down every chance she gets. Molly is the only one that will stand up to her. I'm constantly watching to make sure she is no where near them. I put Fluffy Butt on the porch when I'm not home, but it's still a challenge. But it's been about 4 years now, so the other cats are more aware of her and try to keep their distance, and Fluffy Butt sleeps pretty much all day, so it's not as bad as it used to be.

My awesome friend Greta painted this cute card of Fluffy Butt for me.

Chicken's Story
Chicken joined the Orange Kitty Club, a.k.a my house in June of 2004, when a friend of mine found her and her brother hiding in a neighbors back yard. They were only about 6 weeks old. I had no intentions of keeping either of them, but I definitely was not going to leave them out in the wild, especially because her brother was hurt. He had a hole in his little head.

I took both of them straight to the Vet to have them checked out. I was told that Brother... that's what I called him... may not make it, because he had been attacked by something and had fluid on his brain. I took them both home with me with intentions of nursing Brother back to health, and then finding them both a home. I spent about 2 weeks bottle feeding Brother because he had no interest in eating on his own. He seemed like he was getting better, but the Vet still said that only time would tell. I instantly fell in love with the little guy, he was such a sweet boy, it was like he could tell I was helping him. I began to think that I would end up keeping him, because we expected him to be challenged, and I didn't trust that someone else would give him the extra love and time he needed.

In the meantime, Sister... that's what I called Chicken back then... was growing attached to Molly, like she thought Molly was her mommy, and I think she still does. She didn't need me like Brother did, she just hung out with Molly and made herself at home.

Everything seemed fine until one day when I returned home from work, opened the bathroom door, and found Brother in the corner, crying, covered in urine, unable to move, with his eyes bouncing up and down. I was devastated. I grabbed him up, wrapped him in a towel, jumped into my car, and rushed to the Vet. He laid in my lap and purred the whole way there, which upset me even more. It was determined that he had severe brain damage and was semi-paralyzed. I was completely heart broken. I had to make the hardest decision of my life. They gave me a moment alone with him to tell him I love him and say good bye, and then I helped him move on to Rainbow Bridge, where he would never feel pain or sickness again. RIP Brother, I will never forget you.

I'm sure you can guess what happened next, right?... I went home, grabbed up Sister (Chicken), cuddled up with her in bed, cried my eyes out, and told her that I would never leave her. A few weeks later her name became Chicken and she has remained the sweetest, most loving, member of our family.

7 Days, 7 Zombie Cats - Day 2, Molly

It's Day 2 of my 7 Days, 7 Zombie Cats series, and that means it's time to introduce you to my second zombie cat... Molly!

Why do I call my cats zombie cats? Because, when the zombie apocalypse happens, cause it's gonna happen. ;) I'm not gonna be just another jerk who leaves their furry friends behind to die, they are coming with me, and if they get bit, well then, they will become my zombie cats and I'll love them all the same. At which point I imagine that they will start eating plants, at least that's how it all goes down in my mind, you know because people eat plants now, or at least us cool people do, and if we get bit by a zombie, we suddenly crave brains! Therefore since cats eat meat now, if they get bit they will crave plants, especially carrots I'm told. So if I train my kitty friends to act like zombie cats now, we might be able to trick the real zombies into believing that they are in fact a crew of zombie cats roaming the streets in search of plants. =D

Now back to Molly...

Molly's Story
Kitty and I moved into to our first apartment around June of 2002 and we were looking for a new furry friend to join us. We knew if we asked and waited long enough, the universe would bring us a new friend who was in need of a home. We were finally answered in November of that year, when the same friend of mine who found Kitty 5 years earlier, found Molly laying on the side of the road not far from my apartment. He stopped his car expecting her to run off, but she didn't, she just laid there without a care in the world, and let him pick her up, put her in the car, and bring her to me. She was also a kitten, only about 8 weeks old.

Kitty and I were delighted to welcome her into our little family. She fit in perfectly and still does. She celebrated her 8th birthday in October of last year, so this year she will turn 9. It's still hard for me to believe that she has been with us for so long. She is my laid back sweet fat girl and there is no one else like her.

I fell in love with her right away and asked my mom if I could keep her. She said yes, and the rest is history, Kitty has been the love of my life and my best friend for 14 long years with more to come. She is super needy and bitchy, but that makes me love her all the more.
