Chicken's Story
Chicken joined the Orange Kitty Club, a.k.a my house in June of 2004, when a friend of mine found her and her brother hiding in a neighbors back yard. They were only about 6 weeks old. I had no intentions of keeping either of them, but I definitely was not going to leave them out in the wild, especially because her brother was hurt. He had a hole in his little head.

I took both of them straight to the Vet to have them checked out. I was told that Brother... that's what I called him... may not make it, because he had been attacked by something and had fluid on his brain. I took them both home with me with intentions of nursing Brother back to health, and then finding them both a home. I spent about 2 weeks bottle feeding Brother because he had no interest in eating on his own. He seemed like he was getting better, but the Vet still said that only time would tell. I instantly fell in love with the little guy, he was such a sweet boy, it was like he could tell I was helping him. I began to think that I would end up keeping him, because we expected him to be challenged, and I didn't trust that someone else would give him the extra love and time he needed.

In the meantime, Sister... that's what I called Chicken back then... was growing attached to Molly, like she thought Molly was her mommy, and I think she still does. She didn't need me like Brother did, she just hung out with Molly and made herself at home.

Everything seemed fine until one day when I returned home from work, opened the bathroom door, and found Brother in the corner, crying, covered in urine, unable to move, with his eyes bouncing up and down. I was devastated. I grabbed him up, wrapped him in a towel, jumped into my car, and rushed to the Vet. He laid in my lap and purred the whole way there, which upset me even more. It was determined that he had severe brain damage and was semi-paralyzed. I was completely heart broken. I had to make the hardest decision of my life. They gave me a moment alone with him to tell him I love him and say good bye, and then I helped him move on to Rainbow Bridge, where he would never feel pain or sickness again. RIP Brother, I will never forget you.

I'm sure you can guess what happened next, right?... I went home, grabbed up Sister (Chicken), cuddled up with her in bed, cried my eyes out, and told her that I would never leave her. A few weeks later her name became Chicken and she has remained the sweetest, most loving, member of our family.
